Volunteering at Oregon Food Bank

This past Wednesday morning, Urban Nest Agents gathered at Oregon Food Bank to put in some hours packaging locally grown Bartlett pears for hungry families across the state. Spending time together outside of work was a perfect team bonding exercise for the Agents, but packing alongside local schoolchildren was an unexpected side benefit to the morning - it was inspiring seeing the kids of Portland so enthusiastic and working hard together.
At the end of the shift we were a bit tired and dirty, but we'd also packaged 18,690 pounds of fruit; providing 15,575 meals for hungry families, with each volunteer averaging 260 meals! Oregon Food Bank makes volunteering easy and fun - you can sign on as a group or individual here - and it's very likely that this will become a regular outing for Urban Nest.
