Furbowl 2015: Urban Nest Realty Rollers Strike Again

This past Saturday Urban Nest had the pleasure of participating in the Pixie Project's Furbowl for the second year in a row. The event is an all out good time with bowling, music, pizza, Portland's most famous donuts, and yes, maybe a little bit of beer drinking. As evidenced by the photos we all enjoyed the chance to cut loose and goof off in the name of a good cause. But make no bones about it, (pun unapologetically intended) there was some serious fundraising leading up to this goofy event.

If you're not familiar with the Pixie Project, they are a fantastic organization that serves pets in need of homes by creating a unique adoption experience and matchmaking them to their ideal, forever family. Their low-cost veterinary clinic not only works to prevent overpopulation by making spay/neuter surgeries accessible, but also to help people keep their beloved pets in their existing homes by making necessary surgeries and medications affordable to pet parents with low and/or fixed incomes. When pet owners fall on hard times, including seniors living on social security, they may not be able to afford a necessary surgery at a traditional vet, forcing them to surrender their beloved companion to already over-full shelters...or worse, consider euthanasia. Many of these animals are seniors themselves who have very limited adoption opportunities. The Pixie Project helps pets and the people that love them.

Last year the Urban Nest Team did admirably in our fundraising efforts, coming in fourth by rallying friends & family to help us contribute $2,025.00 to the Pixie Project. This year we challenged ourselves to double it, with a goal of $4,050.00. It seemed a wee bit ambitious, but we went for it...and surpassed it! By reaching out to the animal lovers in our lives (and with a really big push from the PDX Green Team, who matched donations from their generous clients) we managed to raise a very respectable $7,325.00 when all was said and done.

Needless to say, the Pixie Project was thrilled to raise more than $41,000 before the matching contributions are added. And we all feel good knowing our efforts and shenanigans have helped to fund care and services for some most deserving furry friends.
