Halloween in Portland: Events You Won't Want to Miss

Portland Can Be a Very Scary Place, Indeed

Hey there, fellow Portlander! The season of spookiness is upon us, and nobody does spooky quite like Portland. If you’re looking for something fun to do in PDX this October, look no further. We’ve conjured up a handy list of the best Portland Halloween events and activities!

Whether you’re a seasoned PDX native or a newly minted Rose City resident, you’re bound to find some spine-tingling fun here.

The Corn Maize on Sauvie Island

Every autumn, Portlanders large and small gather at the Maize at the Pumpkin Patch. The “maize” changes every year, so you’ll still be in for a challenge even if you’ve already experienced this celebrated local tradition. This year’s maize features a Charlie Brown theme, so don’t be surprised if you come face to face with the Great Pumpkin.

Fright Town

You’ve probably heard that a few of Portland’s charming historic homes harbor supernatural visitors, but they’re generally fairly benevolent. These haunted houses are anything but.

In the ancient exhibit hall beneath the Rose Quarter, you’ll find Fright Town, which features three distinct haunted houses, including Grimthorne Manor, the Witch House, and Baron Von Goolo’s Museum of Horrors, which promises to swallow your soul Portland-style; this, of course, naturally involves bacon.

Beerquest Haunted Pub Tour

These days, downtown Portland is a pretty safe place to explore, but that wasn’t always the case. Back in the early days, it was a hotbed of gangs, kidnappers, and drug smugglers. On this tour, you’ll check out two historic pubs to sip suds and hear chilling stories of the ways in which Portland’s supernatural residents play havoc upon the living.

West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta

Portland is known for its innovative spirit, and this event certainly qualifies. At the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta, zombies, superheroes, fairies, and vampires take to the waters every October to race each other in boats made out of giant pumpkins. There’s really nothing quite like it.

Boo Cruise on the Portland Spirit

All aboard the Portland Spirit for the Boo Cruise! Embark on a nighttime cruise where the music is grooving, the costumes are wild, and the lights of the city are shimmering on the water. It’s guaranteed to be a great time, so wear your most ghoulish attire and get your Halloween groove on!

The Dinner Detective

What could be more frightening than a murder most foul, especially when you know the killer is still nearby? At The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Show, you’ll enjoy a delicious, four-course meal while you try to solve a stone-cold whodunit. Top Sleuths can expect big prizes, so bring your best detective cap.

Zombie Walk Portland

Portlanders are a creative lot, and we love a good art installation. We also love zombie movies. Well, the Portland Zombie Walk is a little bit of both. Every year, a group of inspired PDX residents dress up in full living dead regalia and lurch around the city center. You can join them. No word on whether vegan brains will be provided, but this is Portland, so it seems highly likely.

Howloween at the Zoo

Trick or treating is fun, but have you ever wished it involved just a few more wild animals? If that’s the case, then Holwloween at the Portland Zoo is definitely for you. Animal lovers young and old will have a blast participating in scavenger hunts, learning about conservation, and enjoying deforestation-free candy.
