Community Business Spotlight: Portland Fish Market

Reeling in some local insight from our neighbors at Portland Fish Market

In this series, Urban Nest sits down with local PDX business owners to talk shop about what makes their store or business fit so well with Portland. Learn about new neighborhoods, new businesses, PDX community and more!

The Catch of the Day in SE Portland

As soon as you walk into Portland Fish Market, you’ll understand how serious they are about seafood. Live lobster and crab tanks, a half-dozen varieties of house-smoked fish, and just about every seafood seasoning and condiment you could imagine makes the Woodstock business one of Portland’s finest seafood authorities. We talked with co-owners Ben and Agnes about what makes our city such a great place to live and work.

UN: How long have you been in business?

We’re approaching our 2nd anniversary! We opened on August 15th, 2014.

UN: How would you describe the community that surrounds your business?

Woodstock is a fantastic, friendly neighborhood. In 2 short years here we have come to know our customers and become a part of this close-knit community. Our fellow Woodstock business owners have been incredibly supportive, friendly and welcoming. We feel like we hit the jackpot!

UN: What do you think makes your shop a great fit for Portland?

Portland is a very small business-friendly city that understands how important it is to know where your food comes from. We’re the only all-wild fish market in Portland, and we source from the fishermen.

UN: What is your favorite thing about Portland, and why?

The food! Portland has some of the best market, restaurants and food carts anywhere (at least in our humble opinion).

UN: Which part of town do you live in, and what do you love about it most?

Ben and Agnes live in Westmoreland, which has many similar qualities to Woodstock. We love the small town, know your neighbors, block party atmosphere. Walkability is also key, everything you need is just a short walk away.
