Mr. Rogers Had It Right

One of Portland’s many charms is that it’s a city of neighborhoods. I love my neighborhood. It has trees and sidewalks and nice houses. It’s close to downtown and has a high walkscore and good access to transportation. The schools have been good for my kids. But what I love most about my neighborhood is MY NEIGHBORS.

At 7:15 this morning, my car wouldn’t start. I called Triple-A (Thank you, Thank you Triple-A for the many times you’ve saved me!). The mechanic arrived and solved the problem. As he was finishing up with the repair, I got a text message from a neighbor who’d seen the situation as she drove off: “You can borrow the truck if you need to.”

Yes, the best thing about my neighborhood is my neighbors.
