Innovative Brews With a Focus on Community

Migration Brewing is characterized by their exceptional and traditionally crafted brews, larger-than-life patio seating area, and a loyal following in the Laurelhurst community and beyond. We spoke with co-owner and general manager Colin Rath about why our city has been such an ideal launching pad for the brewery and its vision.

UN: How long have you been in business?

Six and a half years.

UN: How would you describe the community that surrounds your business?

I would describe our community around Migration as very involved. We support a lot of parents, businesses, and schools in the surrounding area, all of which are trying to do their part to support Portland in their own unique way.

The Guys Behind Migration Brewing

UN: What do you think makes your shop a great fit for Portland?

Community. We do a lot to support our community and the great Portland community whenever we can. Our business has given us a lot of opportunities to build long-standing relationships and to support a lot of wonderful people and amazing causes.

UN: What is your favorite thing about Portland, and why?

We love the fact that we can get out of the city and into green space within 30 minutes in any direction. There is a lot of talk about the infill right now, and if it is done right, it is going to help keep Portland the amazing place people moved here for. Without building up we would have to build out, which would in turn means that we would lose a lot of the green space we have all come to love and enjoy.

UN: Which part of town do you live in, and what do you love about it most?

I live in NE Portland just off of upper Glisan. I love the area since we are walking distance from Montavilla, which we love, and are excited to see what happens with all the vacant buildings on Glisan.
