This week we are heading north to the neighborhood of Woodlawn. If you haven’t had the chance to check out this area, I highly suggest it! The neighborhood is a charming hodgepodge of different style homes (Midcentury, Victorian, Bungalow, and even a few Foursquare and Colonials) making it a real joy to explore. And, protip: you can’t go to Woodlawn without stopping for an Oatmeal Coconut cookie at Woodlawn Coffee & Pastry, so make sure you do this! (really, you won’t regret this).
As I munched on my own Oatmeal Coconut cookie (not joking), I went to explore this weeks house, a overwhelmingly cute 1920's Bungalow on NE Liberty Street. This street itself is packed with great homes, like the grand old Victorian next door and adorable salmon turn-of-the-century cottage across the street. It’s obvious there is a pride of ownership here and everyone has great curb appeal, and this listing is no exception.
When I first opened the door to this house I was instantly in awe. The period details of the home are still present and everything looks fresh and clean. The living and dining rooms are bright and airy thanks to all the natural light pouring in. In the kitchen (complete with a chalk-wall!) and bathroom I found stylish finishes that match the character of the home. And don’t even get me started on how cute the furniture is here... (shoutout to the talented people of Spruce Staging!)
The listing agent, our very own Jessica Lamb, has also been the owner of this house for the past four years. “We took what was a poorly-executed 90's flip and brought back all the period details,” she told me. She even went as far as adding a bead-board ceiling to the hallway and matching the new lower kitchen cabinets to the original uppers that are still there today. There was no detail missed on this one.
Heading out back, the yard is generous, beautiful, and lush. “We’ve hosted tons of parties here,” Jessica reminisced, and I started to envision late nights around the fire pit and dinner parties on the tree-shaded patio that’s just waiting for some string lights and a BBQ.
This house really is the entire package and it’s hard to choose a favorite part, but I’d probably say the charm of the neighborhood really won me over. “Woodlawn is the best of both worlds,” Jessica told me. “You’ve got walkability with so many local cafes and restaurants, but it’s also a really quiet area.” And in case you were wondering (as I was), it’s only a 13 minute walk to the bakery for more cookies.
