We’re heading up to Overlook this week to check out my favorite listing. This house is centrally located to everything North Portland. If you’re a runner, you’d be just six blocks from the Willamette Blvd bluff (an almost 2 mile path that takes you all the way to PSU with views of the river, industrial area, and downtown). If you work at Adidas, you’d be able to walk to the office in just 8 minutes. And for after work, you’d be able to walk (in less than 8 minutes) to great neighborhood spots like Backyard Social, The Old Gold, Milk Glass Mrkt, and Spitz (delicious Mediterranean street food). Location Location Location!
The house itself, located at 5641 N. Delaware, is an updated Cape Cod with 4 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, and just over 2,300 square feet. Walking in the front door you are immediately greeted by a stylish and spacious living room that is flooded with natural light. Heading past the living room (once you’re ready to leave - it’s so cozy you may not want to) you’ll find a short hallway to the left with a full bathroom and master bedroom (complete with a huge walk-in closet and it’s own private bathroom with dual sinks and a giant shower).
The rest of the main floor consists of a large eat-in kitchen and a small dining room. Heading through the dining room slider you find the second best thing about this house: the backyard! This space is ready to entertain, and, had I been smart, I would have brought some wine and hung out under the string lights and patio for a while (maybe next time).
Back inside, I head to the basement, and this is no ordinary basement. It’s probably one of the nicest basements I’ve been in lately - wainscoting on the walls, a large office space, two large bedrooms (with egress), a full bathroom, a giant laundry area, space for a bar, storage, external entrance, the list goes on and on. And, as if I didn’t already feel like the house was much larger than 2,300 square feet, I head to the top floor to find what could be the 4th bedroom/movie room/playroom, whatever!
"The house definitely lives large," the listing agent, Jennifer Beach, told me. And when asked what her favorite thing was, she too mentioned the location. "There is such an ease to the neighborhood. You can walk to so many hip restaurants in a matter of minutes."
My favorite part? The living room. Maybe I’m biased because I helped decorate it, but it’s such a cozy and airy space that beckons anyone who steps through the door to hang out for a while. Also, I love all the plants inside the basement bedroom egress windows - this is one of my favorite ways to bring life into basements.
